After 8 month of wear and tear (or there lack of) a few points have really shown the labor I have put into these pants (all 6 days a week on average). Starting with the crotch, a small hole has formed next to the bar-tack that hold the four parts together which can only mean one thing: imminent blowout. And speaking of holes, the one right where the top fly button hits the fly cover has been slowly but surely growing and will need a minor repair in the near future. Now what fabric to use… Any suggestions?
I recently started keeping my wallet in my back pocket and it is already showing. My iPhone mark is really starting to show as well from being in my front right pocket. I’ve noticed that the front pocket bag is exactly two iPhones wide which means that one side will always reside right on the middle of the pocket. That is the white line you see on the right side (my right side).
So, with that said, only one rivet has popped off since I started wearing my RTs and no blowouts. I have still yet to wash, soak or get them seriously wet and I have no plans to until after the 1 year mark. A Spring swim in a lake or an ocean soak should do the trick. But you’ll just have to wait and see.
Lastly, Ryan Plett has started to break in a pair of RT Stantons as well so pay attention to his cause you never how he’ll wear his in. Check it out here… http://denimdebate.com/2010/10/rogue-territory-stanton-initial-fit/

Gnarly fades. The crotch looks ripe, I’d be worried too.
When I was home over fall break, I noticed dip tin fades on older men’s jeans. It’s something that will probably will be forgotten with our generation as chewing tobacco is on the outs. Chewing tobacco on the outs is a good thing, but the fade of a dip tin won’t be often seen anymore.
Now that’s dedication: I love denim as much as anyone, but 6 days a week for 8 months w/out any water? Sweet jeans…are you disappointed that a rivet let go? I’ve NEVER had a rivet go,even on ancient cheapo Levis.
Good luck with the non-washing, Sir. I had to wash my 17oz Samurai’s after 6 months. I couldn’t do another month as I was wearing them from April to September, not to mention the Heat wave in NYC and the constant hot Subway system. Matter of fact, my now Monthly wash is coming up.
I appreciate the no washing thing, it definitely makes the denim act a certain way, but i wore my apc’s for year without and washing and it made the denim weaken and deteriorate a bit faster, but the sharpness of fades and worn in look is better. So there are pro’s and cons. Now i wash my current jeans once every month or two and the fading is more evened out and not as contrasted but the denim has held up better and no crotch rip
i have a very similar cell phone fade on my SEXSC02′s and i love it! i never ever wash (or soak, or rinse) my jeans in the first year. if there is any odor that i need to get rid of i just spray a small amount of cologne on the inside of them.
Love the wear patterns that’s specific to one’s wearer. I just recently adopted the no-wash strategy when I brought a pair of RD Lincoln. The color fades are unbelievable and my trusty IPhone and wallet have made their mark on the jean on the front and back pockets. I have been wearing the jeans 7 days a week from mid April until now and it’s still going strong. I’m in the design field so matching it with a dress shirt for presentation is not a problem. I am hoping to get a full year in before washing. Keep up the good work guys.
i would suggest using chambray to fix holes in your denim. i have a buzz rickson chambray that i use to patch up holes and it works really well since it is a high quality heavy duty fabric.
Hey guys, I’m new here. I’m doing research, and thinking about getting my first pair of raw denim jeans, but this kind of thing makes me nervous: rivets popping off, crotch blow-out, holes… My trusty Levis last way longer than that (with pretty good fades and whatnot, too). Is wear-and-tear like that normal on such expensive, high-quality jeans? Seems like a turn-off. Or a rip-off, even.
@ stealwhereyoucan
if your trusty levis are lasting long with out wear and tear then you must not wear your denim very hard. this usually only happens to people who beat the crap out of their jeans with long, consistent wear. wear and tear is totally normal and everybody wears their pair differently. dont be nervous with buying a pair! you will definitely be happy with your purchase.
what brand(s) are you considering?
the reason most “high quality” denim have crotch rips and rivets popin off or whatever is because raw denim starts out very rough, might not be broken in slowly enough, and on top of that most don’t wash their denim often enough to prevent bacteria from weakening the denim, and then the jeans are wore tigher than usual in a lot of cases.
i have worn my apcs for about 4 to 5 months the crotch just ripped i have a whole of about the size of a dime should i soak before i get it fixed or get it fixed wear longer then soak?
