Jean Shop | 5 Months In

“Fully five months in, just took some simple photos for wear. Also turned out my cuffs to show the amount of straw/sand/dirt you collect with some high turnups. You can also see some dustballs of denim material that have been gathered in the cuffs. The bottom edge of the cuff has worn in some spots, but not broken through yet (good).

My guess is that if the jeans were slimmer on me (if I had sized down) then there might be more wiskering etc. The back of knees and rivetless pocket corners continue to increase their visible wear.”

I own some jean shop rockers. Except wishing the rise was a little higher, I’m absolutely in love with them. I’ve been hard pressed to find another pair of jeans that has the same quality of denim. I’m not a deminazi, but does higher quality denim exist – I’m looking for another pair of straight leg jeans with a little bit higher rise, but denim as nice as jean shop. Any suggestions?

Honestly, I’d say most of the jeans featured on here are probably as nice as Jean Shop denim-although I can’t say for sure. I’ve never owned a pair of Jean Shop jeans but I have a feeling after you reach a certain ‘level’ of denim the differences are more in the smaller details-fit, style, provenance, etc. etc. Don’t take my word for it, but I’d be willing to put my Flat Heads up against any other jeans pokemon style.

@Lyle: Take a look at Raleigh Denim’s NASH cut. It’s a slim straight-leg with a more regular rise.

I’d agree with Jon on the denim quality issue. Jean Shop’s denim is made in Japan, although I’m not sure which mill it comes from. Most “premium denim” comes from Japan, with exceptions like Raleigh Denim’s Cone Mills, made in NC (I believe Baldwin denim also uses Cone Mills denim). So the quality of the denim is generally the same across the board… it all comes down to preference of construction. Added bonuses include chain-stitching details and hidden rivets, etc. But again, it’s all personal preference. Too bad it’s an expensive hobby ;)
I’ll also agree with Chris on the NASH cut… I just recently acquired my own pair of these, and they’re good so far.

what, no one was impressed with the amount of straw and garbage i found in my turnups?? sheesh. tough crowd…
@lyle, have found boxers are the CYA solution to the “medium rise” problem; but agreed.

I love my Kicking Mule Workshop in the Rocker style.. The 1980 fit is really great too. Higher rise by RRL the low straight fit is good.
