For the last 5 years or so I’ve been keeping four quarters in the coin pocket of all my jeans. I just keep the quarters on hand for parking or a candy bar or whatever. I like using four because they stack tall enough to stay put and not move around within the coin pocket. I like the bit of character it adds to my jeans. The light circle serves as a very clear indicator of far along my jeans have come along in their pursuit toward perfectly worn.

No, they don’t. Although more pictures would help…
are those levi’s 510′s?
Paul, the sentence would have been more accurately written as “serves as a very clear indicator to me.” But if you’re going to be a stickler about language, you probably shouldn’t use a plural pronoun “they” to refer to the singular phrase “The light circle.” #Justsayin
Gabe, they are raw 511s, the 510s are too skinny in the calf for my liking.

Right. For whatever reason I must have been reading the caption while writing. Apologies for the snafu. I was referring to the quarters in the plural. Of course, your passive aggressive rhetoric and assumption about me trying to be “stickier about language” is rather unfair, condescending, and weak.
To be more precise about my statement, I don’t agree with the idea that the fades (or in your case, “the fade”) from quarters are a “clear” indicator of how jeans are breaking in, especially when there are so many more areas of your jeans that can be shown to strengthen that statement. Something you have yet to provide. I’m sure I’m not the only one who is curious and waiting to see how the rest of those jeans are progressing.
Just because you’ve clarified your statement, it’s still lacking “to me” without more “proof”. Again, I’m looking forward to more pics in addition to the nice detail of your circular fade.
I, personally, am a huge fan of the quarters…I wish the chapstick and nail clippers I keep in my fifth pocket would show like that…Good/Unique Look!!!
Angelo, are the levi’s “rigid” wash jeans all raw? I thought they have a little stretch in them, and wasn’t sure if that means they wouldn’t qualify as raw/dry denim. Regardless, I’m interested in picking up my first pair of dry denim, and love levi’s (both for timelessness and for price), and this would be a perfect pick.
I like the stack of quarters indicator too. Paul, maybe you don’t mean to sound condescending, but it certainly comes off the page that way.
The point was that, being only six weeks into wearing the jeans, there isn’t any real visible evidence of wear except around the coins. In that way, the imprint of the coins and progression of fading at that point provides an interesting precursor to fading in other areas (behind the knees, etc.)
As the the point of this blog was to showcase the process of wear, not just the end product like many other blogs and forums, a singular photograph at this juncture illustrates what I intended adequately.
Thanks for reading and your input.
Apologies if I came across condescending– given Angelo’s “language lesson” response to my critique, I felt it necessary to clarify what exactly I was saying. I didn’t think it was a particularly helpful or respectful response. I took it as a low-blow from an intelligent, fellow writer. For the record, if I had been interested in precise grammar, I would have pointed out the missing “how” in the phrase “clear indicator of far along” in the last sentence of the post. But precise language is not really the focal point of the debate or my critique.
I suppose I should’ve simply asked, “so are we going to see more wear pics?” Some of the other contributors’ posts show dramatic fades a few months in, while others are a bit more subtle but still striking (like James’ 3-Sixteens). I, for one, would like to see what those Levi’s look like at this stage.
And let me repeat myself– I really do like the circle fade. I was just hoping to see more proof in the pudding, so to speak.
Thanks for the comments Paul, I for one would like to see this supposedly amazing Nikon camera in action more… #Canon4Life
Ben,
The some of the jeans that Levi’s labels as “rigid” are in fact unwashed denim, but they contain 2% elastine. The pair I got came from England and are 100% cotton. If you don’t feel like paying for overseas shipping, J. Crew has a raw 501 that should, if you soak them and wear them wet for awhile, fit really nice and slim.
In my last comment, ignore that “The” and capitalize the S in “some”, y’know, just to keep the people happy.
Ryan, Paul is right about the missing “how” in that post. Which is your fault because you’re posting this stuff motherfucker!
Angelo- I have more important things to do every day than proof your writing; it’s called copy and paste my friend. Besides aren’t you a goddamn english major or something?
It looks like you’ve been saving a skinny condom for a rainy day.
Well it’s your site and I’m making you look bad.
Haha… You’re not making me look bad in anyway… the whole point of this was to be individuals posting what they want… not what one guy (i.e. Me) thinks, if I wanted that I would have just posted this on my site… besides, I want people to want more from you and the other contributers, that means they care enough to look and comment.
Paul, take a pill you bitch. psst….Ryan? It’s spelled “contributors”. #Justsayin in case, you know, Paul comes back, even though I know we’re all hoping he doesn’t.
Rock that shit, Angelo.
Oh, I’m here… happily adding to the comment count… and I’m still waiting for those damn pics.
Haha… Paul you are awesome…
Billy- I misspell all day when I’m on a PC at work… too used to the macbook correcting me…
Are these the same 511s you can purchase at most places, or are they a limited edition through a partner? Also, are they selvedge?
