3sixteen ST | 3 Months In

From barbeque sauce to bicycle grease, from sausage gravy to smoke-filled bars, in the three months since receiving a pair of 3Sixteen STs from the folks at at Self Edge, I’m proud to tell you I wore them literally every day. My friends and, more importantly, my family members will tell you they were “Thrilled. Finally!” (mom), “Really happy you did that” (dad), “Amazed you could withstand cleaning anything for three months. Gross” (brother). Three months, 15 states, and a ton of greasy food, it was time to wash the jeans.

After a night on the town in late March, where a friend spilled a fresh Bud Light all over my left leg, I’d had it. The jeans smelled. I washed them inside out, in a Maytag, cold water, with Cheer. I dried them inside out, in a Maytag, on high, with Bounce. The results? Not bad. Lost some color. Lost that shine. The fabric over the fly is now permanently wrinkled, revealing the buttons of my fly, but, Dude, they fit well, and more importantly, they don’t smell.

Indeed it seems the inside out wash is a necessary evil due to spillage and whatnot. I try and give mine the ol’ hand wash when that day comes. I am curious, what made you use the dryer rather than letting them air dry?

I failed to address the fact that the jeans have stretched so much in the waist that they hang off my backside. I machine dried to shrink.

Good jeans man. I saw this one time when a guy used a Sharpie to mark down how much he’d worn his jeans. About the whole smell thing-you can always used the tried and true air freshener. It’s the best fabric freshener and odour remover.

The knees (front and back) look great.

I’ve always heard to NEVER dry denim in the dryer because of the creasing.

Ben, hard and fast rules are hard to come by in clothing. “Never” is a word I steer clear of wherever possible. For the most part, I do something a little different each time I buy a pair of raw denim. This time, I washed after three months, and I decided to dry to shrink the waist, because I was tired of having to constantly pull my jeans up. I hope you understand that I wear my clothes. I take care of them, but I really wear them.

So can I ask, how well/how much did they “shrink”? My SL’s have stretched a bit also and were never truly as tight as I’d liked from the start and I’m considering a machine hot dry to try to shrink them down more than they ever were…. wondering how the sanforized 3sixteen denim came out…

    thanks
