The first thing I noticed when I began wearing these Nom De Guerre indigo selvedge jeans was definitely the rise. I have typically worn low rise denim in the past, and these jeans are more of a high rise. It took a little getting used to having the waist line so high up on my lower back, but over the past month and a half I have actually grown to like the higher rise. A higher rise offers a functional advantage over low-rise denim, in that it tends to do a much better job of keeping your shirts tucked in, especially for anyone out there who is tall and slender like myself (I’m 6’3″ and weigh 175 LBS).
Other fit characteristics worth noting include the following:
Overall Fit – These jeans run true to their listed size. As I said, I’m 6’3″ and weight 175, and I am wearing a 32 inch waist. I tried on 30′s and 32′s, and there was no question that the 32′s were the correct size for me. These jeans are fairly snug through the waist, thigh, and leg, although there is a bit of extra room in the crotch. Overall, they fit me great from day 1. I would imagine these jeans would do well for those with a more athletic or husky build as well because of the added room in the seat, although I could certainly see some folks with thicker legs wanting a little more leg room. But if you compare them to a slim cut denim like APC New Standards, I would say there is slightly more leg room and they would probably be more roomy than many slimmer cuts.
Length – I did not have to get these jeans hemmed, the length was perfect for me. I go back and forth wearing them un-cuffed and with a single cuff, and they are plenty long to go either route. The leg is narrow enough that if I don’t cuff them, I never have any problems with them hanging over my footwear and dragging.
Color – As the name suggests, these are an indigo dye. However, when I Iook at them from certain angles I notice hints of grey and green. They really are a nice looking jean, and I really like the color.
Pockets – These are a 5-pocket jean, with a traditional looking 5th pocket (i.e. there is no selvedge trim at the top of the pocket). The front pockets are nice and deep, which I really like. Although I rarely carry much more than my keys, a cell phone (a smaller old school flip phone, not a smart phone), and a chap stick, I still like having the room for other junk if the situation calls for it. For that reason, I’m not a big fan of shallow pockets. The rear pockets are fairly large (again with the rear pockets, they are a bit longer than other denim I have been wearing recently), and have a straight, square cut to them.
Fly – The NDG’s have a button fly, with 4 black buttons and a bronze-ish waist button. The buttons are very minimal, with no logos or labeling on them at all.
Rivets - There are 10 rivets in all on these jeans, 2 for each pocket (including the 5th pocket). Consistent with the fly and other characteristics of these jeans, the rivets are very minimal. They are circular in shape with an elevated circular head in the middle. They have a similar color to the waist button (bronze/brown-ish). One thing I have noticed about the rivets since I’ve been wearing these jeans is that some of them have begun to wear and show a copper tint at the head. Not surprising, this is more pronounced on the inner rear pockets (where I sit) and on the 5th pocket (where my hand moves over to go in and out of the right front pocket. It’s worth mentioning that although the rivets are slightly elevated, I have yet to experience any discomfort from sitting on them. They seem to be a non-factor in terms of comfort in the seat.
I began wearing these jeans at about the beginning of February, which means I’ve been wearing them for about a month and a half. I haven’t noticed a lot of wearing yet, with the exception of the rear pocket where I wear a small/thin bi-fold wallet (which 4” x 3” dimensions). I first began to notice the wallet area beginning to fade after about the 10th wear. Other than that, the back of the knees has shown some typical crinkling and the lap has began to show signs of inheriting some wrinkles that will likely begin to whisker. I have worn these jeans about 3-4 days a week for an average of about 12.5 hours per wear. In total, I have worn them 20 times. I have yet to wash them , and I don’t plan on washing them anytime soon assuming I can avoid any overly extreme soiling.

I really like the look of these. The black rivets give them a more formal look.
Really good looking denim. The minimalist design reminds me of A.P.C. Fantastic job calculating the time worn factor. I am breaking in a pair of Kicking Mule Workshop right now and keeping track in a similar manner. Keep up the good work and wear.
Amaaaaazing !!! Can’t wait to see how these progress in the 4-6 months. Great pictures too.
