I picked the Flat Head F310s after a few emails back and forth with Kiya and Andrew of Self Edge. I’m always leery of getting gear without being able to try it on. But after giving a few examples of my size in other brands the Self Edge crew hit the nail on the head. The F310s are durable classic jeans. The fit seems to be a happy medium between more traditional straight legs and slim/skinny jeans. Slim, without being tight. The length was a little too long-I’m only 5’9-5’10-but that was quickly remedied after the initial soak that was recommended by Self Edge. The first pics were before I soaked the Flat Heads. The inseam shortened up and the waist shrank around an inch. The soak moved the fit from good to perfect. Although the jeans were stiff and tight right after the soak they softened and relaxed after about a week of wearing. If you’re thinking about these jeans, just make sure you have about an inch in the waist before soaking them.
The soaking process is really simple. Fill up your tub with warm (not hot) water and soak the jeans for 10-15 minutes. Hang dry. Once they’re dry they’ll probably be stiff enough to stand up on their own. Which makes the first few days of wear a little intense. Give it a week though and they are easily the best fitting jean I’ve ever owned.
There really isn’t a whole lot of visible wear in the jeans. Which is pretty impressive since I’ve been wearing them pretty much every day for close to 3 months. The most apparent wear can be seen on my back pocket. The whiskering is just starting to take effect and the creases are definitely set in. A bit of fading can be seen, but overall the denim has retained it’s dark, raw indigo hue.
I don’t really have any critiques for these jeans. The only, tiny nit-picky thing would be that the zipper pull doesn’t always lay flat. But really that’s a minor problem that is probably due more to the newness of the zipper rather than anything else.
